    Description

RARE BEAUTIFUL WITH ORIGINAL UNTOUCHED FINISH & ORIGINAL CASE.
Echo-Uke brand ukuleles look just like other 1920s-era Hawaiian ukes, but they have a small and rather curious difference: On the underside of the top, directly beneath the bridge, there’s a small block of wood holding two thin metal prongs, each bent into a shape that’s like the handlebars of a bike (above). These prongs are designed to respond to the vibration of the soundboard when the uke is played, and to resonate, sort of like the sympathetic strings on an Indian sitar, thus producing an “echo-ey” sound.
One build feature that contributes to the sound of an Echo uke is its greater body depth, which, at 2-3/4 inches, gives these ukes a fuller and slightly louder sound than most other Hawaiian ukuleles.
This is a vintage Hawaiian Mahogany Co. soprano ukulele (Hawaiian Mahogany was the old term for Hawaiian Koa). It is their Echo model. It dates to 1926. Hand made in Honolulu, Hawaii, out of all Hawaiian koa. The label in the body states: 10 - Year Old Koa, Deep - Toned, Echo - Uke, Hawaiian Mahogany Co., Honolulu, Made in Hawaii. The decal on the peg head is the Royal Hawaiian crest with HAWAII beneath it.
The ukulele beautiful condition. No cracks and no repairs. It is obviously well made. There are no scratches.   All original. The Hawaiian Mahogany Co. started business in 1921 as a timber supplier, then later started manufacturing fine cabinets and then ukuleles. They first appeared in the Honolulu business directory in 1926 as a ukulele manufacturer. After that year the company changed its name, so the uke dates to 1926.
