    Description

1915 Koa Wood antique TABU soprano Ukulele all Original w/ wood tuners - Made in Hawaii!. Measures 20.5”x6.25”x2.25”.  This beautiful ukulele is over 100 years old and still in fine condition.  Around 1915 true Hawaiian ukulele makers were finding that ukuleles’ made on the US mainland were not being distinguished from their true Hawaiian made ukes. So Hawaiian luthiers began stamping their instruments with the ‘Tabu’ mark. This ukulele has an impressed Tabu mark on the back of the head between the original wooden tuners (see pics).
The manufacturer is unknown except that it was Hawaiian made. There is a crown above the Tabu mark that might suggest a maker or perhaps that is just part of the Tabu mark itself. There is nothing inside the sound hole. The Hawaii label is still fresh and unharmed. The koa wood is flaming wonderfully and the finish is solid and shiny. I cannot tell if it is the original finish or not. There are a few small scratches, nicks and finish wear, but I mention these only to be accurate, these are few and unnoticed unless you look for them. No cracks and no repairs, the fret board/neck is straight and there are no loose edges anywhere.  I have had the work for twenty years and never played it or adjusted anything except to add a missing string. This instrument is sound and in fine condition.  For an antique that is saying something.
Shipping is on the mainland and outside the mainland.
