Description
An early chromolithographed dance print. A polka composed by Cesare Pugni, 'as Danced by Mlle. Cerito & Mons. St. Leon', published in 1844 or 1845 in New York by Firth Hall & Pond. Titled'The Real Redowa Polka'. The cover has an early chromo-lithograph: a full-page color-printed lithograph of Cerito and St. Leon dancing the polka, based on a sketch by J. Bouvier and lithographed by the Endicott Company in New York. Fanny Cerito (1817-1909) and Arthur St. Leon (1821-1870) were leading dancers and choreographers of the period, at one time married to each other. The piece is complete. 5 separated sheets making 10 pages. Color cover, back blank. Title page with music, plus 6 more pages of music, last page blank. Approximately 13.5 by 10 inches.
